Battery Types: Lead Acid
There are many types of batteries currently in production today throughout the world.
Lead Acid Batteries are generally classified first by the process used in their construction:
- Sealed Valve Regulated Starved Electrolyte
- Sealed Valve Regulated Gelled Electrolyte
- Sealed Maintenance-Free, Flooded
- Open Vent Maintenance-Free Flooded
- Low Maintenance or Maintainable Flooded
Lead Acid Batteries are secondly classified by the chemistry used in the production of the batteries grids or plates:
- Calcium/Calcium
- Calcium/Antimony hybrids
- Low Antimony and High Antimony
Lead Acid Batteries are then classified by their application or how they are used:
- Starting
- Cycling
- Starting/Cycling combinations
- Float and Float/Cyclic
Flooded, Gel, Advanced AGM, Traction Gel, and EV Traction Dry Cell are the current category names used in the industry for Lead Acid Battery types, and reference the composition of construction, chemistry and electrolyte.
